June 2017

An exhibition featuring textiles by Fiona Clancy with paintings by Sarah Walker. Fiona Clancy's textiles are  large scale abstract compositions of stitched fabric made with her own hand dyed fabric. She makes contemporary wall hangings using  a traditional patchwork tecnique.

'I make large abstract textile wall art . My work is primarily concerned with colour, line, shape, scale and texture. I work intuitively using traditional patchwork techniques in a contemporary way.

Using my own hand dyed fabrics I spend endless hours cutting , stitching , recutting and stitching many small fabric pieces into a large, complex and vibrantly colourful piece of cloth. Once the piecing is complete I add a layer of wadding and a backing layer to the piece. I then densely quilt this fabric and sandwich to add another complex layer of texture and depth to the piece.

My work is influenced by a love of colour, travels throughout Central and South America and Asia and an addiction to crumbling ruins, old stone walls, ancient stones and sites.' Fiona Clancy

Sarah Walker shows two new paintings from the tree series, oil on canvas.
